Overview
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) is a vulcanized rubber membrane with decades of installed performance across all climate zones. Its dark surface absorbs rather than reflects heat — an advantage in northern climates where winter heating loads dominate. EPDM is installed fully adhered, mechanically fastened, or ballasted with aggregate, making it suitable for a wide variety of substrates and project budgets. Seams are sealed with contact adhesive and seam tape or cured splicing tape.
Key Benefits
- Excellent low-temperature flexibility — maintains pliability down to -40°F
- Proven 30+ year track record in commercial applications
- Multiple installation methods (adhered, fastened, ballasted) for substrate flexibility
- Resistant to UV, ozone, weathering, and thermal cycling
- Lower installed cost compared to thermoplastic single-ply options
- Repairable with compatible seam tape and liquid flashing products
Best Suited For
Re-roofs on a defined budget, northern climate facilities, schools, churches, and government buildings where proven long-term performance is the primary criterion.
